Security concerns raised over use of government data for research

Australian parliamentary inquiry into data availability bill calls for tighter security and privacy controls

Proposed access rules for Australian government data may be modified to deal with national security concerns, following the results of a recent inquiry.

A parliamentary committee reviewing the Data Availability and Transparency Bill 2020 recommended in a report on 29 April that security agencies be given oversight of “potential security risks” in opening up government-held data to researchers.
