Legislation on critical research infrastructure passes parliament

    

Universities claim win as majority of their activities are excluded from Australian security controls

Australia’s critical infrastructure bill, aimed at tightening up security and particularly cybersecurity, has passed parliament.

The Security Legislation Amendment (Critical Infrastructure Protection) Act 2022 will see some university and other research assets labelled as “critical infrastructure”. It passed on 31 March.
