Hundreds of billions of dollars earmarked for two-track Australian nuclear-powered submarine plan

Australia’s major nuclear-powered submarine project will require an ‘all hands on deck’ approach from universities and industry.

On 14 March, the Australian government announced the acquisition of three nuclear-powered submarines from the US and the development of a “sovereign” local building project in partnership with the US. The programme is part of the Aukus partnership between Australia, the UK and the US.
