Productivity Commission says open access should be mandated for government-funded research

Australia’s university fee system should be overhauled and open access should be mandated for government-funded research, the government’s Productivity Commission has recommended.

In its latest five-yearly report, released on 17 March, the commission says that a return to a “demand-driven” model for university places should be considered.
