University regulator defends response to Israel-Hamas protests

US violence was a “pivot point” for Australia’s Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency

Australia’s tertiary education regulator has been quizzed in a Senate Education and Employment Committee hearing on its response to student campus protests over the Israel-Hamas war.

In the hearing on 6 June, shadow education minister Sarah Henderson read protest material found on the Australian National University’s campus into the record, saying “it doesn’t seem that the universities are stamping this out urgently when these sorts of things arise”.
