When astrophysicist Steven Tingay met the Wajarri Yamaji people in the Western Australian outback for the first time, he suspected the experience would change his life. What he didn’t know was that he would encounter what may be the world’s oldest story—a cosmological tale that offers tantalising insights into the origins of humankind.

It all started with the secrets of the universe. As a professor of radio astronomy at Curtin University, Tingay has a pretty good handle on the heavens.
