Without better monitoring and research, threatened species “could slip to extinction”

Australia’s threatened plant species need more monitoring to avoid extinctions, a study has found.

Researchers from the Australian National University estimate that nearly two-thirds of threatened plants are not being monitored at all. “Without adequate monitoring, threatened species could slip to extinction without anyone noticing or having sufficient time to act,” lead author Tyrone Lavery said.
