Groups throw weight behind extra funding for Australian PhD placements, but clash over timing

Leading research bodies have voiced their support for a proposal that would encourage Australian universities to offer more industry internships in their PhD programmes.

The department of education, skills and employment (DESE) has proposed a change in weightings to increase the amount paid to universities through the Research Block Grants programme, which finances internships for doctoral students.
