Australian Senate committee recommends criminal sanctions for deliberate underpayment of staff

Underpayment of university staff is rife in Australia, a Senate inquiry has found.

The report from the Economics References Committee, titled Systemic, Sustained and Shameful, looks at unlawful underpayment of employees’ remuneration. It devotes a chapter to the problem in universities, finding that there are systemic issues including the complexity of work arrangements.
