Surveying a growing specialism
Writing grant applications is a favourite task of very few researchers. But some people have it as their whole job.
This is the case for Johanna Toivonen de Gonzales (pictured), who works in Finland’s University of Turku. As a recent appointee to her job, Toivonen de Gonzales was curious to know what other university staff thought of grant writers and whether possessing specialist knowledge of a researcher’s subject area was essential for success.
