French research ministry to spend big on farming

Vidal announces funding to improve local food production under Investments in the Future programme

France is promising a “third agricultural revolution” and plans to launch it with a budget of €887.5 million to be spent on researching digital technologies, genetics and robotics for food production.

The programme, to be implemented over five years, has two funding streams. The first stream, worth €428m, will finance the development of “innovative solutions for the resilience and competitiveness” of agriculture and the agri-food industry as it undergoes green transition. A second stream, worth €449.5m, has been earmarked for the design and deployment of technology and services for a sustainable and healthy food supply.
