France launches open-data platform

Government commits €7 million to website to share research data for first three years

France has launched a mostly open-access platform sharing data from across public research organisations and government departments.

The platform, Recherche Data Gouv, will “enable and encourage the reuse of research data”, the ministry of higher education and research said in a statement. It will also be used to share data on a “more restricted” basis where appropriate. Researchers in public research organisations will be encouraged to deposit research data as well as examine and make use of data supplied by other researchers.
