French research and universities get extra €1.1bn in draft budget

                                 

Rise in spending was expected, thanks to research programming law

The budget for the ministry of higher education and research will be raised by €1.1 billion in 2023 under a draft budget presented by economy minister Bruno Le Maire on 26 September.

Under the plans, which need to be approved by the French parliament, the total ministerial budget for 2023 will be €25.7bn, including nearly €15bn for higher education and university establishments, a €500 million rise; €7.8bn allocated to research and development, up by €400m on 2022; and €3.1bn earmarked for student life, an increase of €200m.
