States launch artificial-intelligence programmes

Funds available to boost use of computing and online learning in German labs and classrooms

The federal government of Germany and the 16 states have agreed on two funding programmes for artificial-intelligence teaching and research at universities.

The programme—Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education—was launched last week through Germany’s Joint Science Conference (GWK), the coordination body for research and education funding between federal and state governments. The programme aims to promote AI as a crucial technology in the higher education system.
