Leaky pipeline blamed for failure to significantly raise number of senior female academics in Germany
The proportion of women in science has increased at universities and at non-university research institutions in the past decade—but progress remains slow, according to a report by the Joint Science Conference (GWK).
The GWK, a governmental science-administration body, concluded that the proportion of women in academic jobs decreases with each qualification and career level after their PhD. “This leaky pipeline means that considerable female qualification potential is lost to the science system,” the report said.
