Opposition to new law grows as government turns blind eye to concerns from academia
Germany has passed a law on infection control with only minimal changes, despite widespread protests from higher education institutions and rectors.
The law constricts the options for in-person teaching and research at universities—applying the same rules to them that cover schools. The German Rectors’ Conference, the HRK, voiced its disappointment at the quick passing of the law without the government acknowledging a detailed response from the organisation to the original proposal.
