Merkel calls for better translation of research into technology

Germany will fall behind competitors if innovation and marketisation system is not improved, says chancellor

German chancellor Angela Merkel has called for a more intensive and flexible research and innovation policy, as she seeks to establish a scientific legacy.

Germany and Europe must secure technological sovereignty if they are to avoid falling behind the United States and China, Merkel said at a pan-German science summit on 20 May.
