Researchers urge action on bias against female leaders

Study of anonymous complaints in German academia suggest problematic expectations of women still rife

German universities should do more to address unconscious bias against senior female academics and women in leadership positions, according to a series of articles.

The scientific journal Beiträge zur Hochschulforschung (contributions to higher education research) dedicated its latest issue to understanding the reasons behind anonymous allegations of scientific and non-scientific misconduct in higher education. It found that such allegations are on the rise across Germany, and are predominantly targeted at female senior scientists.
