Universities’ share of industry funding declines in Germany

German businesses collaborate with non-academic entities, leaving higher education out of pocket

The share of industry sources among the third-party funding of German universities has declined during the last decade, according to an analysis by research funders’ association Stifterverband.

Income from business collaborations accounted for 17.2 per cent of all third-party university funding in 2019, compared to 22.9 per cent in 2009, a report showed.
