German council presents recommendations to boost the role and visibility of university medicine
University medicine in Germany needs a consistent strategy to better match up science with the needs of the health system, according to a report by the German Council of Science and Humanities.
The federal and state governments, as well as science and health policymakers, should develop a better understanding of the role and tasks of university medicine, and provide the field with adequate funding, the paper said. The council pointed out that efficient health systems, which are vital to tackling health crises such as the coronavirus pandemic, need efficient science.
