Transparency in research must be more than an end in itself, German funder says
Open science is not an automatic guarantee of high-quality research and must come with some limitations, according to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Germany’s largest public research funder.
A position paper published by the DFG this month said there were many opportunities for open science in Germany but that full openness of the research process and quality assessment would not be beneficial. The funder warned of the high expectations raised around what open science can achieve, saying that these would be crushed without a more grounded approach.
