Germany’s highest court confirms that information on possible cancer risk of glyphosate should be public

The Bundesgerichtshof (BGH), Germany’s Federal Court of Justice, has dismissed an appeal attempting to overturn a ruling on the publication of a report on the potential cancer risks associated with glyphosate.

The expert report was obtained by transparency initiative Frag den Staat (Ask the State) in 2019 through a freedom of information request and subsequently made public. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), which compiled the report, took Frag den Staat to the Higher Regional Court of Cologne over the issue, which, in November 2020, ruled that its publication had been lawful.
