Staff tell universities to step up anti-discrimination efforts

                     

Existing policies are failing to make higher education a welcoming work space, union warns

Germany’s education and science union, the GEW, has urged universities to develop better policies and practices to end discrimination on campus.

The union said that higher education in Germany remains an unwelcoming space for non-white people and those who grew up abroad. A study presented by the GEW shows that, at all levels of the country’s education system, opportunities are lower for people with a so-called “migration background”.
