Bank should be ‘change agent’ and spur private investment in R&D missions, economist says

The lead adviser on the EU’s planned R&D missions, economist Mariana Mazzucato, has called for the European Investment Bank to make a significant commitment to help achieve the missions’ aims, once they have been decided.

In a report published on 19 November, Mazzucato (pictured), who is director of the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at University College London, and co-author Olga Mikheeva, a research fellow at the institute, urge the EIB to “seize this opportunity” of the missions’ 2021 launch by “mobilising the capital and expertise needed” to make the missions a success.
