Commission appoints officials to manage EU R&D missions

Officials to be ‘public face’ of missions in areas potentially including cancer and climate change

The European Commission has appointed five of its officials to manage the missions the EU is introducing to its 2021-27 R&D programme, Horizon Europe, with a remit to “lead the mission and be its public face”.

Missions are intended to increase the real-world impact of the R&D programme as well as public support for it. They are being planned in five areas: healthy waters, adaptation to climate change, cancer, climate-neutral cities, and soil health.
