Funders join opposition to barring EU neighbours from R&D calls

Eligibility restrictions “would disrupt essential collaborations and could weaken future consortia and projects”

Science Europe, the association of research funders and performers, has joined those urging the EU not to curtail its collaboration with external partners on technology projects under its 2021-27 R&D programme, Horizon Europe.

In recent weeks, research organisations have been poring over texts that appear to be draft work programmes for Horizon Europe. The papers say that, to protect the EU’s security or economic advantage, seven Horizon Europe calls on quantum technologies and nine on space technologies should exclude long-standing partners like Israel, Switzerland and the UK.
