Combining excellence and development-based funding for R&D “not straightforward”, Joint Research Centre finds
More local resources are required to combine EU regional development spending on R&D with funding from the bloc’s R&D programme, an assessment has found.
Achieving such “synergies” has become a political priority for the EU’s 2021-27 spending period, after the bloc devoted more than €125 billion to research and innovation in 2014-20, of which only about €77bn came from its specific R&D programme.
