Allocation to climate aiming higher than R&D programme’s 35 per cent target

The European Commission has set out a plan for how the EU’s 2021-27 R&D programme Horizon Europe will achieve—or even exceed—its target to allocate 35 per cent of its funding to climate-related activities, after the predecessor programme Horizon 2020 underperformed against the same goal.

Unveiled on 8 June, the plan foresees €5 billion being allocated to climate from Horizon Europe in 2021, with the figure rising each year to €5.6bn in 2027 for a total of €38.8bn overall from the €95.5bn programme.
