European Parliament’s committee on budgets seeks to go beyond restoring cuts proposed by ministers

The European Parliament is set to demand that the proposed 2022 budget for Horizon Europe, the EU R&D programme, be boosted by €305 million, pushing to more than restore a €316m cut being sought by ministers in the Council of the EU.

Those sums are in relation to a June proposal from the European Commission that Horizon Europe should have a 2022 budget of €12.2 billion, which means the proposed cut and rise are each worth about 2.5 per cent of the initial proposal.
