European Research Council announces 408 winners of 2022 Starting Grants—posing dilemma for UK-based researchers

Seventy more UK-based early career researchers have won grants from the European Research Council and will now face the tough choice of moving elsewhere or relinquishing the prestige and certainty of their awards, which are among the world’s most highly prized.

The ERC announced on 22 November that it had awarded its 2022 Starting Grant to 408 leading researchers, who will share €636 million for work on projects spanning topics from vaccinology to the legal rights of refugees.
