Horizon research security measures ‘reasonable if sector is consulted’

Commission urged to give institutions support on any mandatory measures to protect against hostile powers

A requirement for Horizon Europe applicants to implement new security measures against hostile powers would be “reasonable” if the sector is consulted and given time to adjust, a university leader has said.

Marc Lemaître, the European Commission’s top R&I official, told Research Professional News in a recent interview that the EU will need to think in greater detail about ensuring research projects it funds are protected from foreign interference.
