European weather centre to set up EU-compatible office in Bonn

Satellite office will ensure EU funds can flow to intergovernmental body despite Brexit

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, an intergovernmental research institute and weather service, has announced it will open an office in Bonn, Germany, to take over some of the activities currently carried out at its headquarters in the UK.

“The decision of the UK to leave the EU does not affect ECMWF’s core activities, and its status as an intergovernmental organisation allows the centre to deliver its activities from any of its member states. However, with ECMWF’s partnership with the EU growing over the years…it has become necessary to move the associated activities to a location compatible with EU funding policies,” the ECMRWF said on 9 December.
