Plan S open-access initiative praises publishers for promising transparency on costs

Libraries will be able to compare the prices and services of over 2,000 journals as 27 publishers have now signed up to a comparison service from open-access initiative Plan S.

How much publishers charge for research services, and what they provide in return, has become a major discussion point in pushes for open access. Transparency on these costs is an increasingly loud demand from open-access advocates who say it is necessary to ensure fairness and efficiency in scholarly publishing.
