Details revealed of controversial plan to assign EU R&D money to government communications network

At least €380 million from the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation funding programme has been earmarked to pay for the development of secure government communication satellites.

Research leaders were dismayed by plans to pay for the satellites using Horizon Europe money when the European Parliament and member state governments in the Council of the EU announced the €2.4 billion scheme last week.
