European Commission spokesperson says infrastructure body is mulling options for ‘third-country’ participation

The body that advises Europe on research infrastructure policy is reflecting on its approach to collaboration, the European Commission has said, amid criticism over Switzerland losing its formal membership.

Responsible for making funding recommendations, the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (Esfri) cut off Switzerland’s formal participation in its meetings and other activities from September 2022, as a result of the country being denied association to the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme due to political disagreements.
