Materials testing facility in Spain among initiatives funded by EU nuclear research programme

The EU has adopted a new €132 million work programme for its nuclear research and training programme Euratom, including support for projects focusing on decommissioning and a facility under construction in Spain to develop materials for fusion power.

The 2023-25 work programme will support EU efforts to increase the security of its energy supply, the European Commission said on 17 March. Research commissioner Mariya Gabriel said that the programme “is a crucial part of the EU’s efforts to keep technological leadership and to promote excellence in nuclear research and innovation”.
