Jury still out on Cern’s next accelerator

After Germany lambasts plan from Europe’s nuclear research organisation, other member states reserve judgment

A trio of Cern’s member states have said they remain undecided on whether they will support the European nuclear research organisation’s potential next particle accelerator, known as the Future Circular Collider.

Their stance comes after Germany shocked the particle physics community last month when its research ministry publicly said it could not afford to fund its expected €4-5 billion contribution to the FCC, which Cern has estimated will cost about €16bn in total.
