EU adopts positions on AI and splashes out on supercomputers

Politicians try to shape development of artificial intelligence as EU looks to harness its capabilities

The European Parliament and Council of the EU have adopted positions on the development and use of artificial intelligence, as the EU splashed out on two shared supercomputers.

On 20 October, the Parliament endorsed three reports on AI prepared by MEPs from its legal affairs committee. Together, the positions sketch out legal frameworks for the development and use of AI, and the forms of legal liability and ownership appropriate for such technologies.
