Battery research needs ‘urgent prioritisation’, European plan says

Coordination forum for battery innovation says ‘significant investment’ is needed in ‘extensive’ research

Batteries Europe, a group established to coordinate battery innovation efforts as part of an EU-backed initiative to help Europe secure its autonomy in related technologies, has called for the “urgent prioritisation” of relevant research.

In a strategic research agenda published on 15 December, the group set out recommendations to EU and national policymakers, including that they should “immediately prioritise and strongly support next generation as well as long-term battery research and innovation to ensure the industry remains in Europe”.
