Commission seeks views on Bauhaus-inspired green initiative

Consultation on European sustainable architecture initiative kicks off with promises of inclusiveness

The European Commission is seeking ideas from scientists, engineers and any other interested parties for its New European Bauhaus initiative—an effort to make architecture and related practices more environmentally sustainable by bringing together science, art and other disciplines. The initiative is inspired by the Bauhaus arts and crafts school that operated in Germany from 1919 to 1933.

The first phase of the initiative, its ‘design phase’, was launched on 18 January by Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, research commissioner Mariya Gabriel, and cohesion commissioner Elisa Ferreira. The Commission wants people to submit examples of sustainable design, original ideas and challenges.
