Commission seeks leader for European Innovation Council

EIC board president will chair team providing strategic direction to funder of R&D-based small companies

The European Commission is looking for a “high-profile public figure” to be the first board president of the European Innovation Council, a funder of research and technology-based startups and small companies that sits within the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme.

The EIC launched in full form under Horizon Europe earlier this year, with a budget of over €10 billion for 2021-27, having been trialled under the final three years of the predecessor programme Horizon 2020. It is intended to support innovation by boosting companies’ growth, using grants and equity to help them take early-stage R&D through to market-ready products and services.
