Proposed law would enable joint assessments between member states to speed up treatment approvals
The Council of the EU has given the green light to measures aimed at making the approval of health treatments and medical devices more straightforward and faster in the bloc, so that patients can benefit from them sooner.
A new regulation on health technology assessment was signed off by the Council on 9 November. If also adopted by the European Parliament, it will allow EU member states to conduct joint clinical assessments and scientific consultations on emerging health technologies and products such as pacemakers, dialysis equipment and infusion pumps.
