EU to allocate Horizon money to secure satellite system

“Unfortunate” that money will be taken from “important” existing programmes like Horizon Europe, says MEP

The EU is set to finance a new satellite system for secure communications, in part by using money from its research and innovation funding programme Horizon Europe.

On 17 November, the Council of the EU—which represents the 27 member states—and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on plans to build a constellation of hundreds of satellites that will provide governmental services and enable the provision of affordable internet access on the continent.
