Universities feel neglected by EU innovation agenda

Groups say Commission agenda glosses over breadth of universities’ innovation contributions

Universities have criticised the innovation agenda presented by the European Commission this week, saying it is too narrow and neglects their varied contributions to innovation on the continent.

Presented on 5 July, the agenda focuses on “deep tech” innovation, defined as being “rooted in cutting-edge science, technology and engineering”. It has five main aims: to increase access to finance for small companies; improve regulatory conditions; strengthen regional innovation links; build up talent; and better tailor the EU policy framework.
