‘Urgent need’ for agriculture R&D to achieve sustainability targets

European Commission recommends use of genetic modification and social innovation in agriculture

Agricultural innovation, investment and technology transfer are “urgently required” to improve the sustainability of the EU’s food systems, the European Commission has warned in a new report.

According to the Commission, meeting targets for food security and climate emissions will require average global agricultural productivity to increase by 28 per cent over the next decade.
