Irish universities demand end to ‘serious underfunding’

Academics say proposed higher education reform must protect their autonomy

The Irish Universities Association has said any legal reform of the country’s higher education system will be meaningless unless the sector receives more funding. 

IUA director general Jim Miley made the comments while addressing a joint committee in the Oireachtas, Ireland’s parliament, on the government’s Higher Education Authority Bill. The bill is proposed to reform the governance of higher education in Ireland and improve academic accountability.
