Report lauds ‘professionalising’ of post-PhD research

Irish universities commended for efforts, but campaign group highlights fraught conditions for international academics

An international report has praised Ireland’s higher education institutions for “professionalising” the delivery of postgraduate research.

The report, which reviewed implementation of Ireland’s national framework for doctoral education, said Ireland had been successful in “ensuring both the quality of the student experience and the standard of awards”. It also found that Irish universities had reformed PhD education in line with developments in continental Europe.
