Irish universities call for €900m in 2022 Budget

Lecturers’ union asks for “urgent action” to tackle long-term funding crisis flagged by OECD

The Irish Universities Association (IUA) has called on the government to substantially increase investment in higher education and research as part of its post-coronavirus recovery plans.

In its pre-budget submission, the IUA requested a €900 million funding package for the sector next year. The call comes as the Teachers Union of Ireland criticised the government’s “abject failure” to invest in Irish education, an issue highlighted by an OECD report.
