2022 to see major upheaval in management of Irish higher education
A major reform for Irish universities is on the cards in 2022, as the government is seeking to change the way higher education institutions are managed and regulated.
The Higher Education Authority Bill, published on 7 January, promises to provide “a comprehensive governance, performance and accountability framework” for institutions—a move meant to safeguard public money spent on the sector. The bill introduces a co-governance structure for institutions, with changes to the size and composition of university boards to include more external members, some of them ministerially appointed.
