National research evaluation to begin in Italy this year

Revamped assessment will incorporate anti-bias measures and take into account technology transfer and academic outreach

Anvur, Italy’s national research evaluation agency, is about to embark on a huge effort to assess the quality and scope of the country’s scientific activity as part of its 2021-23 programme.

Antonio Felice Uricchio, the agency’s president, described the programme as “ambitious” in an interview with Research Professional News. The evaluation, covering the years 2015 to 2019, will be performed by 600 evaluators drawn randomly from 5,000 preapproved candidates.
